ELL OVERVIEW

The Equity Learning Lab (ELL) is a project to build the capacity of health equity organizations to advance racial+ equity in their work. Sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), the ELL provided customized support to enable organizations to make progress on racial+ equity in their organizations within a cohort. The organizations received coaching and consulting services, an extensive curriculum of resources and tools, and a structure that promoted peer learning across multiple organizations of varying sizes and types.

Leadership Team (“The Hub”)

Two organizations co-designed and led the ELL: Learning For Action (LFA), which works with social sector organizations to strengthen their learning cultures and practices in service of equity and justice; and Public Equity Group (PEG), which helps organizations develop and implement high-impact strategies, management approaches, and programs and campaigns that drive social change.

I believe that for this work to take hold, you can’t have just one person at the center. So as an executive leader who had intentionally de-centered myself in this equity work, I realized that I had to sometimes be an active leader to help other people do the same. There’s always a balance to consider, between de-centering oneself in equity work and then realizing, oh actually, I’ve actually got to be very active on this. This requires my presence and my leadership. Karen Jean Minyard, Chief Executive Officer, Georgia Health Policy Center
